Ryan Murphy reassigned to Charlotte Checkers by Carolina Hurricanes

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has reassigned defenseman Ryan Murphy to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey league (AHL).

Murphy, 21, has totaled 12 points (2g, 10a) in 48 NHL games with the Hurricanes during his first full professional season. The Aurora, Ont., native has also played 19 AHL games for Charlotte in 2013-14, earning 19 points (1g, 18a). Murphy ranks second among Checkers defensemen in assists this season, and third among team blueliners in points. Selected by the Hurricanes in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Murphy (5’11”, 185 lbs.) has totaled two goals and 10 assists (12 points) in 52 career NHL games with Carolina.

The Hurricanes play their final home game of the 2013-14 season tonight against the Washington Capitals (7 p.m., FOX Sports Carolinas, Hurricanes Radio Network). Carolina will wrap up the 2013-14 season with games at Detroit on Friday and in Philadelphia on Sunday.
